One fun assignment we got at the HKU was to make a music video for a given song. “If The World Doesn’t Wait” is part of the soundtrack from the movie “Torch Song”.  I worked together with Sjors Emmers and Jael van Homoet on an animated clip about a girl sending herself into space to escape her busy life down on earth. My roles were spread over the concept, 2d-animator, 3d-background renderer and as one of the editors.

This project was a great place for experimentation. I used a lot of after effects for composition, doing so by placing in 2d layers in a 3d scene. This gave the shots a nice animated depth. It also allowed for a quick workflow, necessary in the short time-frame that was given.

I was not very experienced with drawing for longer animations. Being the only 2d-artist, this meant that all shots of the main character were for me to create. This project taught me a lot about workflow and how to
(and not to) animate.
