This shortfilm was made as an entry in the shortfilm competition ‘Shoot Your Shot’ organized by De Schuur in Haarlem. During the production I was helped by Benjamin Treur and River de Lugt. At the finale, we placed third. I was responsible for most of the project, starting with the concept all through the final cut. We had four days to shoot, my first time working with real actors. After that I spend about two months working on numerous VFX-shots and the edit.
Airlock’s concept was very personal to me. The main idea was to show someone who is stuck behind a non-existant wall. In his room Matthew is too focused on his project, to the point were he cannot step away from it. I wanted to portray what it feels like to be streched too thin.
Matthew was played by Stefan Broesder, Lizzy was played by Iris van der Vliet. The VFX-shots from outside the window and the pan towards the door were made by Levi van Nobelen.
